Eyewear & Optical Accessories

Frames, lenses, and the case.

Mixed materials and country-of-origin on small lots still have to survive a CF-28. Sunglasses can be FDA devices. A licensed broker still signs the 7501.

JFK and LAX on one file. 21 CFR 801.410 is a gate when the facts are medical.

The invoice that fails

“Sunglasses” is not always one heading.

A drop that reads as one SKU is often three facts on a 7501. The frame. The lens. The case. Houses that file a single 9004 dump pay for it in CF-28s — not on the lookbook.

We split the line while the aircraft is still over the water. If plastic versus metal is missing, we pause. We do not invent a suffix to look fast.

Frame material is the heading. The brand is not.

01 · The split

Name the frame. Then transmit.

Frame

Plastic is not metal.

Chapter 9003/9004 care. Acetate, metal, mixed. Unnamed “fashion frames” is a pause.

Lenses

Sunglass is not ophthalmic.

Corrective lenses are a different conversation. Polarized fashion glass still needs the fact on the invoice.

Case

The sleeve can split.

A leather case with the glasses is not always the same heading. We allocate when the facts require it.

Origin

Hinge is not the atelier.

Small lots still need a country. A mixed-origin frame has to survive a CF-28.

02 · The gate

Sunglasses can be devices.

Impact-resistant lenses sit under FDA device rules when the article is sunglasses. We flag it from the invoice. We will not transmit a 7501 that still owes that posture if the facts are medical.

Fashion optical that is not a device still needs frame material and origin. The dashboard shows the yellow line before JFK pulls the crate.

03 · The lane

JFK for European acetate. LAX for Asia metal.

Small lots still move as licensed entries. The file does not care which door it used. Repeating SKUs stay mapped so the next drop is not a first-time classification.

04 · What we need

Send the invoice. We will say if the file holds.

  1. Frame material Acetate, metal, mixed. “Fashion frames” is not enough.
  2. Lens type Sunglass, ophthalmic, or plano. Polarized named if it matters.
  3. Case / kit Whether a case, cloth, or chain is in the carton — and whether it splits.
  4. FDA posture If the article is sunglasses, impact-resistance facts in the vault.
  5. Country of origin On small lots too. Mixed origin has to be defensible.

Questions we actually get

The file before the appointment.

Can frames and a case be one HTS line?

Sometimes the case is packing. Sometimes it splits. We read the invoice. We do not file 9004 over a leather sleeve to look fast.

Are sunglasses FDA devices?

Impact-resistant sunglasses sit under FDA device rules. We flag the posture from the invoice and keep the packet in the vault.

What belongs on the commercial invoice?

Frame material, lens type, kit contents, origin. A campaign still is not the proof.

Do you clear eyewear at JFK?

JFK takes European acetate. LAX takes Asia metal. The licensed file is the same desk.

The desk

Bring one messy eyewear invoice.

A consultation returns classification notes, PGA flags, and a flat fee. If the file is not one we can defend, we will say so in the memo.
