Leather & Accessories

Species first. Then the heading.

Unnamed leather is a pause. Exotic skins need FWS eDec and CITES in the vault. Hardware, lining, and the bag itself often split. A licensed broker still signs the 7501.

LAX is still the CITES door. 50 CFR 23 is a gate, not a footnote.

The invoice that fails

“Leather bag” is not a heading.

A maison invoice that reads as one object is three facts on a 7501. The species. The hardware. The lining. Houses that file a single 42 heading pay for it in FWS holds — not in the showroom.

We name the hide while the aircraft is still over the water. If the species is missing, we pause. We do not invent cowhide to look fast.

The hide is the heading. The hardware may split.

01 · The split

Name the hide. Then transmit.

Species

Cow is not python.

Bovine, calf, sheep, goat — named. Exotic skins are a different file. Unnamed leather is a pause.

Hardware

Metal is not the bag.

Closures, chain, and feet can split when they are not mere fittings. We allocate before ACE.

Lining

Textile has a chapter.

A leather shell with a man-made lining still needs both facts on the invoice. Essential character is GRI, not a guess.

Origin

Tannery is not the atelier.

Where the hide was finished and where the bag was assembled can differ. The 7501 has to survive that story.

02 · The gate

CITES is a permit in the vault.

Python, crocodile, alligator, lizard — FWS eDec and the foreign CITES permit exist before we transmit. We will not send a 7501 that still owes that packet. A missed trunk show is not a classification strategy.

Cowhide still needs a name. “Genuine leather” is marketing. The tariff line wants the animal.

03 · The door

LAX for the skins. PHL for the quiet air.

West-coast maisons book LAX because FWS is already in the building. East-coast leather and small DTC lots often land PHL. The file is the same licensed desk either way.

Unnamed leather is a pause, not a 42 dump.

04 · What we need

Send the invoice. We will say if the file holds.

  1. Species The animal on each leather line. “Genuine leather” is not enough.
  2. CITES / FWS Permit numbers in the vault if the skin is listed. eDec before ACE.
  3. Hardware Metal described if it is more than a fitting. Values that can split.
  4. Lining Textile named. Composition if it affects essential character.
  5. Country of origin Where the bag was made — and where the hide was tanned if it matters.

Tariff classification

GRI on species and essential character — not a house SKU mapped to last year’s heading.

Questions we actually get

The file before the appointment.

Can a leather tote be one HTS line?

Often the shell is one heading and the hardware or lining needs a look. Unnamed leather is a pause. We do not file 4202 as a courtesy.

When does CITES apply?

When the skin is a listed species — python, croc, gator, many lizards. The foreign permit and FWS eDec sit in the vault before ACE.

What belongs on the commercial invoice?

Species, hardware, lining, country of origin. A product shot is not the proof.

Do you clear exotic leather at LAX?

LAX is still the CITES door. PHL takes quiet luxury air. The licensed file is the same desk.

The desk

Bring one messy leather invoice.

A consultation returns classification notes, PGA flags, and a flat fee. If the file is not one we can defend, we will say so in the memo.
