Specialty Hardware & Tech

One crate. Several headings.

Boards, housings, batteries, and accessories rarely share a heading. We split the line, keep the origin story straight, and size the bond to the duty — not last year’s number. A licensed broker still signs the 7501.

EWR and LAX on one file. UN 3481 is a gate, not a packing note.

The invoice that fails

“Electronics” is not a heading.

A tech invoice that reads as one SKU is often four facts on a 7501. The board. The housing. The battery. The cable. Houses that file a single 85 dump pay for it in CF-28s and lithium holds.

We split the line while the aircraft is still over the water. If watt-hours are missing, we pause. We do not invent a suffix to clear the weekend.

The board is a heading. The battery is another.

01 · The split

Split the machine. Then transmit.

Board

Function on the invoice.

Processor, sensor, or populated PCB — named. A “main board” with no function is a pause.

Housing

Plastic is not the circuit.

Cases and chassis can split. Essential character is GRI, not the marketing name.

Battery

Watt-hours in the vault.

Lithium ion in equipment is UN 3481. Missing Wh is a hold we flag before the airline does.

Origin

Chip is not the assembly.

Section 301 and origin tracing care where it was made. We will not file a single country over a mixed build.

02 · The gate

Lithium is a number in the vault.

Watt-hours, configuration, and whether the cell is in equipment sit on the file before we transmit. We will not send a 7501 that still owes UN 3481 facts. A missed sailing is cheaper than a lithium incident.

Origin is the other hold. A Vietnam assembly with China boards is a tracing problem. The dashboard shows the yellow line before the belt — not in a Friday email.

03 · The lane

EWR for the European builds. LAX for the Asia air.

Multi-tariff tech books the door the freight actually uses. The file does not change. Repeating SKUs stay mapped so the next crate is not a first-time classification.

Accessories in the same carton still split.

04 · What we need

Send the invoice. We will say if the file holds.

  1. Function What the article does. “Electronics” is not enough.
  2. Battery data Chemistry, Wh, in equipment or spare. UN 3481 facts in the vault.
  3. Kit contents Board, housing, cable, charger — named. A “kit” is not a heading.
  4. Country of origin Where it was assembled — and where the board was made if 301 is in play.
  5. Values that can split A lump sum cannot defend four headings.

Questions we actually get

The file before the appointment.

Can a device with a battery be one HTS line?

Sometimes, if GRI essential character holds. The battery facts still sit in the vault. A charger in the same carton often splits.

When do you pause for lithium?

When Wh, configuration, or “in equipment vs spare” is missing. We flag it before ACE — and before the carrier does.

What belongs on the commercial invoice?

Function, kit contents, battery data, origin. A spec sheet PDF helps. A product render does not replace it.

Do you clear tech at EWR?

EWR takes European builds. LAX takes Asia air. The licensed file is the same desk.

The desk

Bring one messy hardware invoice.

A consultation returns classification notes, PGA flags, and a flat fee. If the file is not one we can defend, we will say so in the memo.
